OUR STORY
Recycling
We are interested in developing and understanding new processes to recover and separate critical materials.
Li-ion battery recycling
In collaboration with Prof. Juchen Guo, UC Riverside, we are developing novel aluminum-based battery chemistries and an environmentally friendly separation process to recycle critical materials from used Li-ion batteries.

Rare earth element recycling
A team of colleagues at the University of Pennsylvania, CCNY, and other institutions is developing a novel separation process to recover rare earth elements by developing peptide surfactants that selectively bind to them at air-water interfaces. We solve the 3D molecular-level structures of peptide-rare earth element complexes, yielding insights into the design of new peptide sequences with enhanced binding selectivity.
